The APTT Annual 'Ramble'

Once again we are organising a fundraising walk for APTT, this time it will be at Bamburgh, North Northumberland, a day by the sea!

If you wish to come to Bamburgh for the day but not to walk, you are welcome, but we would ask you to contribute to APTT funds all the same - at £7.00 per person. You can look round the castle, Grace Darling museum, beach etc.

Date: Saturday July 15th 2006 Meet: Bamburgh Castle Car Park (there is a small charge for parking), at 10.45 am for a start at 11.00 am prompt. Transport: By car. If you want to go but don't have a car, I am willing to organise car-sharing. Walk: The walk is 6-7 miles, and will be led by APTT member Marjorie Turner. It is envisaged that we will probably return to Bamburgh by about 3pm, but we will take it fairly easy. Fundraising: All participants except children will be asked to contribute £1.00 per mile, ie £7.00.

Please note there is no pub halfway (!) unlike previous years so you are asked to bring a packed lunch. We will go to a pub in Bamburgh afterwards, probably the Victoria Hotel, which is quite big, and does refreshments of all sorts.

Here is Marjorie's itinerary for those with a map.

Depart Bamburgh Castle Car Park. A short sharp walk up behind the castle, over the Golf Course, past the dunes, zigzag around the odd caravan, rejoin the road after Heather Cottages. A road walk and on to Waren House Hotel.

Up the road by the side of the Hotel, - a slight hill, through Spindlestone and turn left up a short sharp (could be a bit muddy if rain) track and through fields, past a caravan site and rejoin a narrow road. Up a short sharp hill to Brada Quarry - with magnificent views of our coastline from Holy Island right down past Bamburgh..and as far as the eye can see. This is the lunch stop. Downhill after this! From Brada Quarry retrace our steps for a few yards and cross the fields which will bring us out at Dukesfield. A few yards will bring us back onto the road leading down again into Bamburgh.

Health and Safety - there is no qualified first aider on the walk, so you undertake it at your own risk. You will be asked to sign a disclaimer at the start of the walk (as in previous years). There will be a support vehicle half way round.

Please make sure you bring a hat, suncream, water, packed lunch and waterproofs, plus strong shoes or boots, and a garment to keep you warm in case it is windy/cold.

I will send out car directions later on to those who put their names down. The journey from Newcastle is about 1 hour 30 minutes, so this is a full day out.

Please support APTT! Let's make it *a goodun*.

Best wishes
